When you’re suffering from stress and anxiety, trying to stay positive may seem like an impossible task. However, by taking small steps each day you’ll find that you can develop a more optimistic outlook on life. So we’d like to share 7 of the most effective things that you can do to increase the positivity in your life.

  1. Start your day in a positive way

Get your day off to a positive start by developing a morning ritual. It could be something as simple as drinking your favourite tea or coffee without any interruptions, or perhaps listening to a motivating podcast as you eat breakfast or travel to work.

  1. Create a positive environment

This doesn’t just include your physical environment, but the people you choose to spend time with. Surround yourself with people who lift you up. Make your home a welcoming place. Reduce the amount of time you spend on social media sources that damage your self-esteem. Log out of Facebook once in a while and meet your best friends over a hot cup of coffee. Try to meet with like minded, positive people and minimize the time you spend in the company of negative people.

Immerse yourself by reading positive and uplifting books and blogs. Settle down with a motivating or inspirational movie, or play your favourite music. Take time to meditate, even if it’s only for 15 minutes. Meditation will help you focus on the present moment and it will loosen any feelings of anxiety. You can try different creative activities such as painting, playing an instrument or dancing.

While you may not feel as though you have anything to give to others, you’ll find that if you start to reach out and see what you can do for others, the positivity within you will grow. It doesn’t necessarily mean giving money away, you can contribute to somebody else’s life by seeking to help with various tasks or simply offering to listen to them when they need a friend.
